West Virginia State Police create task force to resolve cold cases, violent crimes

The West Virginia State Police have announced a new task force that will focus primarily on violent and unsolved crimes statewide, troopers said.

The West Virginia Violent Crime Task Force is a collaboration between the WVSP, Monongalia County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation that aims to prosecute offenders of violent crimes at cold cases in the state, according to a press release from the West Virginia State Police.

In the release, troopers acknowledged that the task force’s creation was necessary due to the number of unresolved violent crimes and ongoing cold case investigations that are ongoing.

The VCTF will work with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, the WVSP Forensic Laboratory, the Sexual Assault Kit Initiative Coordinators, SAKI Investigators and West Virginia Intelligence Exchange to resolve these ongoing cases.
