Fourteen more Rite Aid stores in the Northwest are marked for closure, according to the latest filing in the drugstore chain’s ongoing bankruptcy proceedings.
WASHINGTON — An additional 14 Rite Aid stores in the Northwest will likely close, according to the latest filing in the drugstore chain’s ongoing bankruptcy proceedings.
Rite Aid filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last week, citing continued financial struggles. It’s the second bankruptcy filing for the popular drugstore chain in the last few years.
Court documents following the bankruptcy announcement last week revealed Rite Aid initially planned to close 47 storesincluding six in Washington and Oregon. However, updated documents released Friday expanded this list to include an additional 68 stores across seven states. Of those, 14 are in either Oregon or Washington.
Rite Aid is preparing for another round of store closures, with auctions for these locations expected to begin around May, according to USA Today. This follows a significant downsizing after the company’s bankruptcy filing in October 2023, which reduced its number of stores from over 2,300 to about 1,200 in 15 states.
In its bankruptcy announcement, Rite Aid said it plans to keep stores open for the next few months while attempting to sell most of its assets. The company is not purchasing new inventory, so customers may notice more empty shelves, the Associated Press reported.
Rite Aid secured $1.94 billion in new financing to keep stores operating during this period. Employees will continue to receive pay and benefits.

If approved as proposed, a total of 68 locations across nine states will close in addition to the company’s “initial closing locations,” according to bankruptcy filings. It’s unclear if and when the proposal will be approved, or when locations would fully close.

What will happen to Rite Aid Reward points and gift cards?
Following the bankruptcy announcement, Rite Aid Rewards points will no longer be issued for qualifying purchases as of May 6. Existing points and BonusCash will also expire according to the terms and conditions.
The company said it will no longer honor Rite Aid gift cards or accept any returns or exchanges starting June 5.
