Shadrack McGill was arrested for criminal mischief in Jackson County and later released. His ex-wife was granted a TRO on Friday.
SCOTTSBORO, Ala. — Former Alabama State Senator Shadrack McGill was arrested Wednesday in Jackson County on a charge of criminal mischief, according to jail records. He was booked and later released.
On Friday, records show, McGill’s ex-wife sought and received a temporary restraining order against him.
McGill, a Republican, represented District 8 in the Alabama Senate from 2010 to 2014.
He did not seek re-election and later ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. Senate in 2016, losing in the Republican primary to Sen. Richard Shelby.
McGill received 2 percent of the vote.
Details regarding the criminal mischief charge were not available through the State of Alabama court database, but records reviewed by FOX54 show Heather Martin, McGill’s ex-wife, was granted a temporary restraining order Friday morning — two days after McGill’s arrest. The document indicates that the order is “necessary to prevent abuse” and indicates a past situation involving use of “hands, feet, (or) fist.”
McGill and Martin were divorced in June 2023, ending a 24-year marriage. The couple has six children, and that matter was revisited last year when Martin sought changes to financial terms and child support-related issues.
McGill faces a possible contempt of court charge for allegedly not following court orders related to that case. The hearing to decide the contempt issue was postponed to Aug. 20 and is pending.
