Chief Joseph Cecile said the operation was a collaborative effort involving the District Attorney’s office and the department’s Special Investigations Unit, which focuses on narcotics. Cecile emphasized the importance of such operations, saying, “This is gonna be a major win for the folks that live up at Parkside Commons trying to go about your business, without worrying about drug trafficking or the gun violence that goes with it.”
The bust resulted in the seizure of three pounds of cocaine and 21 grams of fentanyl, enough to kill thousands of people. The drugs will remain in custody until the court case is resolved, which could take years due to potential appeals.
In a related development, authorities are investigating the possible poisoning of a 6-year-old and a 2-year-old at the same apartment complex. While it is unconfirmed if the incidents are connected to the drug bust, Cecile noted that packaging found in the children’s vicinity was similar to that discovered during the drug operation. “We’re still waiting,” he said.
