Jury seated, trial to begin in the 2023 murder case of a beloved Greenbelt school teacher

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – It’s an odd one, but it’s legit. Don’t toss one postcard in the trash. You might get $85 or more.

It’s about the Forta Data Breach litigation out of Florida. It’s a $20 million settlement. This is the website.

There’s a long list of health companies involved. They used Forta’s file transfer service in January of 2023. Investigators indicate that a Russian-linked ransomware group carried out a criminal attack. This may have put the private information of five million people at risk. We’re talking about names, addresses, birthdays, Social Security numbers, and health insurance information.

“Our information, unfortunately, is everywhere in places we don’t know about,” said Pamela Hernandez with the Better Business Bureau. “And when you get something like this, it can be a little confusing trying to figure what company and what interactions. It can be tough for the average person to figure out if it’s legit. FTC will often have things about class action lawsuits on its website. You can also verify the law firm as well,” she said.

You can also email On Your Side and ask us to review it. Most class action settlements have a website that will post court documents, answers to frequently asked questions, and information for filing a claim.

In this case, you have two options.

Cash Payment A:

You could receive up to five thousand dollars, but you must provide documents to support your losses, such as evidence of a hardship caused by identity theft that you attribute to this data breach.

Then there’s Cash Payment B:

No documents needed. Just submit the claim. Depending on how many do this, you could get about $85.

You can also sign up for one year of dark web monitoring. You have until late August to submit your claim. Don’t hold your breath, sometimes it takes a year or two for the check to arrive in your mailbox.
