On May 14, rapper Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., also known as DDG, was ordered to stay away from actor Halle Bailey after a Los Angeles judge took action over frequent cases of physical violence reported by the Little Mermaid star. The court has issued a restraining order restricting DDG from reaching out either to Halle or their 17-month-old child, Halo, until the June 6 hearing. In her court filing, the actor alleged repeated “physically, verbally, emotionally, and financially” abusive behaviour by the rapper throughout their relationship, seeking the law to intervene as she fears for her baby’s safety.

Halle Bailey gets restraining order against ex-boyfriend
According to the court filing obtained by the Associated Press, Halle admitted to “seeking orders to protect myself and our son Halo from his ongoing abuse.” She also described a specific incident from January where she claimed DDG thrashed her face into a steering wheel while she was trying to buckle Halo (their son) into the car seat. “We fought each other, wrestling and tussling,” she said. “At one point, Darryl was pulling my hair. He then slammed my face on the steering wheel, causing my tooth to get chipped.” She recalled DDG repeatedly calling her “bi***” throughout their clash and wrote in her court documents, “I realise that there is no placating Darryl. I cannot allow this abuse any longer.” She also shared photos of the chipped tooth and bruises.
The star further revealed how the Twitch streamer frequently badmouthed her in front of their baby, calling her “evil.” Now, the actor is seeking sole custody of her son, whom the couple welcomed in December 2023. According to PEOPLE, Halle has reportedly asked the court not to grant DDG any visitation rights, but mentioned he could be allowed to visit occasionally for six hours while Halo is in Los Angeles, with restrictions preventing him from taking their son outside LA.
Referring to DDG’s history of abuse and his tendency to drag her away from their son, sometimes hiding him or threatening to take him away whenever he was upset, Halle also asked the court to order a prevention order on abduction. Describing the alleged car incident, the actor said, “I felt very nervous that he was taking Halo with him and was very agitated; I did not feel safe leaving a baby with him in his state. I also wanted to know when he would bring Halo back. He would not tell me.”
Halle also accused DDG of using his massive social media following, millions of fans on YouTube, Twitch, and other platforms, to turn people against her. “Whenever he wishes to cause upset, he starts bad-mouthing me,” she wrote. She said he goes live, tells lies about her, and fans then flood her with threats and hate. “#FreeHalo” has even become a trending slogan online. Speaking of which, she pleaded with the court to block DDG from talking about her or their child anywhere online. She says all the drama has made her feel “afraid and victimised.”

Halle Bailey and DDG started dating in 2022. The two sparked dating rumours in January, after which the rapper himself confirmed the news on his social media with a birthday post where he wrote, “Happy Birthday to the beautifulest, the flyest, the sweetest. Love you forever.” The post is now deleted. Later, the couple made their romance red carpet official, and in August, Halle even appeared in one of his music videos. Their romance blossomed to the point where DDG started referring to her as his wife. “Experiencing deep love for the first time in my life is something I feel has opened a whole new world for me creatively,” Halle told British Vogue in April 2023. But in July, DDG seemingly shaded Halle in his new track, though Halle quashed the rumours. In January 2024, they announced Halo’s birth. In October the same year, the couple called it quits with a social media post from DDG: “I cherish the time we’ve spent together and the love we shared,” he wrote, adding, “Despite the changes in our relationship, our love for each other remains deep and true. We are still best friends and adore each other.”
