Fire, missing persons make for a busy night, day for crews from four counties

WASHINGTON — GameStop has agreed to pay $4.5 million to settle a class action lawsuit that alleged the company shared customer information with Facebook, violating federal law.

The lawsuit claimedGameStop broke the federal Video Privacy Protection Act, known as VPPA.

Who is eligible for a payment from the GameStop class action settlement?

The settlement is eligible for anybody who bought a video game from the company’s website between Aug. 18, 2020 and April 7, 2025, and who had a public Facebook profile with their name associated with it at the time of purchase.

Emails about the settlement were sent out this week to customers who had purchased a video game from GameStop’s website. It explained that while GameStop has denied any wrongdoing, it agreed to the settlement to avoid the uncertainties and expenses associated with continuing the case.

Anybody who got that email is likely included in the settlement’s members.

How much can you get from the GameStop class action settlement?

According to the email sent out to potential class action members andthe settlement’s official websitethose who are eligible can receive either a cash payment of up to $5 or a voucher for the GameStop website worth up to $10.

It’s unclear how many people are expected to be eligible for the settlement.

How to file a claim for the GameStop class action settlement

First, check your email.

The payments are tied to a unique ID number provided by GameStop in the email about being a member of the class action suit. The ID number is a 10-character string of both numbers and letters.,

Anybody with one of the IDs can file a claim here any time before Aug. 15 in order to receive their payment.

Those who choose a voucher will have the credit added to the GameStop account associated with their email address.

Anybody receiving a cash payment will get their money by either Zelle, Venmo or PayPal.

Those who didn’t receive an email with a Unique ID but still think they are part of the settlement class can instead complete a paper claim form.
