COOS BAY, Ore. – A Coos Bay woman accused of contacting someone from whom she’d been legally barred was arrested Tuesday morning following a tense interaction with sheriff’s deputies, according to the Coos County Sheriff’s Office.
CCSO officials said they responded at 9:37 a.m. on May 6 to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked on Penny Road. A responding deputy arrived and found 40-year-old Tonya Mauldin lying inside a green Chevy pickup with a knife nearby, authorities said. Sheriff’s officials said the deputy secured the knife and attempted to speak with Mauldin. Dispatchers told the deputy that Mauldin had active protective and no contact orders against her, sheriff’s officials said. Coos County sheriff’s deputies said that Mauldin admitted she’d contacted someone from whom she’d been prohibited in contacting and allegedly became increasingly agitated with the deputy, making threats and refusing to get out of her vehicle. Additional deputies responded and assisted in arresting Mauldin after a brief struggle, sheriff’s officials said.
CCSO officials said that, following a medical evaluation, Mauldin was transported to the Coos County Jail where she faces charges that include violating a no contact order and resisting arrest. Mauldin is in custody as of May 7, according to jail records.
