‘Not Going Anywhere’: Pittsboro’s Havoc Brewing Prepares for Anniversary Amid Bankruptcy Shuffle

A downtown Pittsboro business is preparing for an important milestone while juggling a financial reorganization.

Havoc Brewing Company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on April 25, according to a report by the Triangle Business Journalamid the challenges of rising interest rates on their federal small business loan and strains on the supply chain. Chapter 11 bankruptcy allows for a company to restructure its operations and borrowing while maintaining control of its assets — with the West Street business’ founder Michael Pipkin saying it plans to stay open during the changes.

Havoc Brewing addressed rumors of its bankruptcy on Facebook Tuesday evening, stating it is “not going anywhere” and will not be closing despite the financial shuffle. The brewery thanked its patrons for their support and understanding.

“Like many small businesses, we’ve faced some tough headwinds, but we’re taking action to keep moving forward,” reads its message to customers. “We’re restructuring behind the scenes to make Havoc even stronger for the long haul. Our doors are open. The beer is cold. The coffee is hot. And we’ve got big things brewing — literally and figuratively.”

Among those upcoming activities is Havoc’s anniversary party, which will mark two years of the business being open in the SoCo development built off the Circle in downtown Pittsboro. The taproom promised live music, a food truck guest, door prizes, drink specials and new merchandise during its open hours on Saturday.

Beyond serving coffee in the mornings and its original beers in the afternoons and evenings, Havoc Brewing is also known for its programming off the Circle. The brewery hosts regular live music, a rotation of Triangle-area food trucks, and events like adult book fairs, barre classes and cornhole tournaments. Its coffee bar is open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekends, while the taproom is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends.
