Helena-West Helena mayor arrested on tax evasion charges

HELENA-WEST HELENA, Ark. (KATV) — Arkansas State Police has arrested the Mayor of Helena-West Helena on four counts of Failure to Pay or File a Tax Return.

Mayor Christopher Franklin Sr. was arrested Tuesday afternoon during a traffic stop. ASP Special Investigations Unit began an investigation into his tax returns in June 2024, saying they found that he had failed to file taxes in four of the past five years.

Franklin has previously been in hot water when he was caught using inappropriate and graphic language to his daughter in a Facebook Live video.

He is currently held in the St. Francis County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.
