Bankruptcy to Belly Laughs: Oshkosh Arena Gets New Life – Civic Media

The Oshkosh Arena has seen its share of challenges ranging from bankruptcy and disrepair, to even eggs. But thanks to VenuWorks and Executive Director Andy Lintonthe once-embattled facility is quickly transforming into one of the Fox Valley’s most vibrant entertainment hubs.

“It’s been a lot of work, but we’re finally starting to see some fruit from the labor,” Linton says, while beaming about a packed summer schedule at the venue.

One of the most exciting new ventures is Oshkosh’s Funniest Comediana competition that’s already drawing impressive talent. Dozens of comedians have taken the stage during monthly preliminary rounds. All are hoping for a shot at the grand finale this September, when nationally known comedian Josh Blue will headline and help judge the final round. Blue will also bring his own unique perspective and humor to this particular show.

But the variety doesn’t stop there. The arena is hosting everything from roller derby — “good clean fun, and family friendly!” says Linton — to the upcoming International Boxing event, expected to pack the house this August with multiple bouts. The arena also stands ready as the rain plan location for Oshkosh Prideoffering an inclusive space for the community.

And if you’re looking for something a little different, the arena even hosts the Wisconsin State Arm Wrestling Tournament.

“We can handle it all,” Linton explains. “We’re even doing banquets now. If your company needs a space for hundreds, we’ve got you covered.”

All of this is a far cry from the dark, empty building that worried locals not long ago.

“Now you can barely drive past without noticing there’s something going on,” Linton says. “And that’s exactly how we want it.”

And now with VenuWorks at the helm, the Oshkosh Arena is not just surviving — it’s thriving.
