Federal prosecutors file 410 new immigration-related cases in Texas

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Federal prosecutors in the Western District of Texas have filed 410 new immigration and immigration-related criminal cases from May 30 through June 5, according to United States Attorney Justin R. Simmons.

Among the cases, Mexican national Albert Sanchez-Jaimes was charged with illegal re-entry in Austin. Sanchez-Jaimes was encountered at the Burnet County Jail, where he was booked for alleged charges of boating while intoxicated and marijuana possession. He has a lengthy immigration and criminal record, including four prior removals and multiple convictions, according to the press release.

In Waco, Mexican national Daniel Edgar Perez-Cortez was arrested by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Fugitive Operations Team on June 5, stemming from a Waco Crime Stoppers referral. Perez-Cortez, who has a prior conviction for illegal re-entry in 2024, faces federal charges of illegal re-entry and could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

Two Honduran nationals were arrested for illegal re-entry charges in Eagle Pass. U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested Ariel Antonio Lopez-Serrano on June 2, who was previously convicted of human smuggling and removed to Honduras in February. On June 3, Jose Aparicio Diaz-Amaya was arrested by USBP agents after being deported three times, most recently in May.

In El Paso, multiple individuals were charged with human smuggling offenses. U.S. citizens Cynthia Guerrero and Berenice Stevens were charged after allegedly attempting to smuggle three undocumented minors into the U.S. through the Paso Del Norte Port of Entry. Guerrero allegedly admitted to smuggling after being offered $1,900, and both women have prior convictions, according to the criminal complaint.

Additionally, two Mexican nationals were charged in a human smuggling bust after Ysleta Border Patrol Station agents apprehended five illegal aliens. Communications from a cell phone led agents to Jose Adan Meza-Marquez, who allegedly drove a vehicle to the area where the aliens were apprehended.
