Rudrapur: Three police personnel were suspended and another transferred after a video purportedly showing officers misbehaving with women during a late-night raid in the Kelakhera area under Gadarpur police station limits was widely shared on social media. The raid was conducted amid an ongoing land dispute in Vidhi Ka Majhra village.SSP Manikant Mishra suspended sub-inspector Sanjay Bora, constables Dinesh Dhapola and Sanjeev Kumar, and transferred constable Mahendra Singh to Dineshpur police station. Police said the land dispute between residents Mohan Lal and Banwari Lal is currently sub judice. However, tensions escalated on Tuesday after one party alleged garbage dumping on the disputed plot. When police reached the site, a confrontation broke out, resulting in a raid and subsequent filing of an FIR against nine individuals. The matter took a serious turn after Banwari Lal submitted a formal complaint to the SSP, alleging grave misconduct by police officers during the raid on Tuesday. In his complaint, Lal stated that police officers in plain clothes, allegedly in an inebriated state, forcibly entered his house without any female police personnel accompanying them. He claimed that the officers misbehaved with and physically assaulted women in the household, while also vandalising property damaging the refrigerator, television, ceiling fans, and water motor.A video capturing the aftermath of the raid was widely shared on social media, prompting immediate attention from senior police officials. “Such misconduct cannot be tolerated. We have taken action and further investigation is underway,” said circle officer Vibhav Saini.Gadarpur MLA Arvind Pandey, said, “There are serious allegations of police assaulting women during the raid. I have spoken to the SSP. While the morale of the police should not be lowered, harassment of innocent civilians will not be tolerated under any circumstances.”This is not the first time such allegations have surfaced. In May last year, similar disciplinary action was taken against Patrampur outpost staff for misconduct under the influence of alcohol, and in 2021, a constable was suspended after a video showed him assaulting a youth.
