LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – More people are trying to join a class action lawsuit against Charter Communications Inc., also known as Spectrum Cable.
The lawsuit accuses the company of misleading practices.
It centers around a $28 monthly surcharge for re-transmission fees. Those fees are said to be paid to local television stations whose transmissions are carried on cable and satellite systems, but the lawsuit says those numbers don’t add up and accuses Spectrum of profiting off the fee.
The lawsuit says Spectrum misrepresents the surcharge as mandated by the Federal Communications Commission. The charge applies to at least one hundred thousand subscribers in Louisville alone.
Since attorneys reached out to the public two days ago, they say they’ve had 3,000 people file to join the class action.
Friday, they released an amended filing that they say is a more complete description of what they believed happened.
“I think it creates a more clear picture of how deceptive this is. I think it’s unbelievable. I think when we get to the bottom of it, it will be shocking,” Attorney Chauncey Hiestand said.
The suit asks for an injunction to prohibit Spectrum from continuing the fee.
Charter Communications has not commented.
