Grand Rapids town hall to focus on police-community relations

Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson has asked a Connecticut judge to reopen a 10-year-old bankruptcy he filed in 2015 that was approved in 2016.

The 17-page expedited motion to U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Ann M. Nivens states the request is an effort to stop Jahaira Rodriguez’ action against him.

“Although her alleged claim was discharged in this [2015] Bankruptcy Case, and despite repeated requests, Rodriguez has refused to dismiss the Discharged Claim,” states Jackson’s filing.

It goes on to say, “Because Rodriguez has refused repeated requests to dismiss and/or not pursue the Discharged Claim, the Debtor files this Motion for an order reopening his Bankruptcy Case for the limited purpose of enforcing the Plan, the Confirmation Order, and the Discharge Order.”

Rodriguez filed a $20 million injury lawsuit against Jackson in early 2025.

Her summons, filed with the Supreme Court of the State of New York, is for “personal injuries sustained as the result of Defendant’s conduct in violation of the Gender-Motivated Violence Protection Act.” Further details on the basis of the lawsuit were not immediately available.

Jackson’s attorneys said the rapper’s July 7, 2016, bankruptcy discharge wiped away Rodriguez’ claim because her alleged injury happened before the bankruptcy and the window for filing had long expired.

Judge Nivens has signed a stipulated order halting all proceedings against Jackson by Rodriguez until she renders a decision on whether the bankruptcy should be reopened.

The 2015 bankruptcy was filed after Jackson was sued for $7 million for invasion of privacy after posting a sex tape of a former rapper rival’s girlfriend. The woman, Lastonia Leviston, was awarded $5 million in the lawsuit, according to The Associated Press.

In 2015, Jackson told Entertainment Tonight, “If I’m consistently being made out to be a target because of my financial situation, even the court system, I have faith in the court system. So I know at points you gotta just relax and go through the process.”
