MERCED, Calif. (FOX26) — A person who was reported as missing is now deceased after crashing into a fixed object and being engulfed in flames, police say.
Deputies responded to a crash early Saturday morning near the Campus Parkway on-ramp from Highway 140.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered a vehicle that had collided with a fixed object and was fully engulfed in flames.
After firefighters extinguished the blaze, a deceased individual was found inside the vehicle.
During the investigation, authorities received additional information indicating that a person associated with the vehicle had recently been reported missing.
Deputies are currently collaborating with investigators to determine the identity of the deceased.
