HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) – The state of Connecticut came to an agreement with Prospect Medical Holdings who owns three hospitals in Connecticut.
The organization filed for bankruptcy earlier this year, affecting Waterbury Hospital, Manchester Memorial Hospital, and Rockville General Hospital.
Under the new agreement, Prospect must continue its current services at Rockville General Hospital. However, the state said it will allow Prospect to try and consolidate services at Rockville General and Manchester Memorial Hospital.
They would have to get approval of any consolidations from the Department of Public Health.
State leaders said their top priority is the health and well-being of patients.
Senator Jeff Gordon is a doctor who represents Vernon.
He released a statement saying the settlement clears a path for everything to be shut down other than the Emergency Room and Behavioral Health at Rockville General.
He said in part, “This decision once again highlights how out of touch with reality our state government is regarding local health care needs in Connecticut.”
